Alessandro Florenzi Not Thinking About His AS Roma Future

Italy international Alessandro Florenzi has refused to talk up his future ahead of Roma’s key Champions League tie against Shakhtar Donetsk. The Giallorossi succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Shakhtar in the away leg in Donetsk, but they still have a good chance to progress with the home advantage at the Stadio Olimpico this week.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Florenzi insisted that he is only on focused on the club’s European outing on Tuesday night, and the discussions over his future could be discussed on some other time, he said: “The match against Shakhtar is important, not only for us but also for Roma because it would be the fourth time in the club’s history that they’ve reached the quarter-finals,” the midfielder said at a Press conference.

“We have to manage their strengths for 90 minutes, but our style of play means we’ll go the distance, so we must approach the game in the right way. We want to repeat the good things we’ve done in Europe up to now, so we want to qualify. New contract? I’m used to thinking about the present and tomorrow’s game, which is really very important.”

Florenzi had suffered two consecutive anterior cruciate ligament damages which appeared to hamper his participation during the previous campaign, but he has come back in a strong fashion this term to contribute one goal and four assists in 19 appearances for the club. Whilst he started off his career at the heart of the midfield, he has been mostly used in the right-back position this term, where he has witnessed a good return in terms of performances.

Roma will be hoping to reach the quarter-final stage of the Champions League for only the fourth time in their history when they host Shakhtar on Tuesday night. Elsewhere, Florenzi is attracting plenty of big-game club interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United with his contract due to expire in the summer.
