TRANSFERS: ROMA KEEN ON UNITED MIDFIELDER

Italian capital club AS Roma are reportedly keen on signing experienced Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic this summer. This is according to the report from Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web (TMW) which disclosed that Roma boss Jose Mourinho wants to add the Serbian midfielder to his squad during the transfer window this summer. The Portuguese tactician is said to be eyeing a second reunion with Matic having worked with the Serbian at Manchester United and Chelsea.

Mourinho worked with Matic at Chelsea for the first time before he asked senior Manchester United officials to sign himfrom the Blues in the summer of 2017. The Red Devils were able to pull off his signing in a £40m deal. Matic has spent five years at the Theatre of Dreams and it has already been confirmed that the Serbian star will leave Manchester Unitedthis summer despite the fact that he has a year to run before the end of his Manchester contract.

In a statement released by Matic earlier this month, the former Benfica and Chelsea star stated that he will leave Manchester United this summer. He has been seriously linked with Mourinho and Roma since releasing the statement. Since he has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford, Manchester United officials are expected to demand a small fee for Matic from interested teams including Italian Serie A outfit AS Roma.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho has been trying to sign an experienced central midfielder since last summer and Matic could be the man to finally end the search if he agrees to sign for the UEFA European Conference League campaigners this summer. Mourinho and Roma wanted to sign Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka from Arsenal last summer, but they were unable to meet the valuation for the player. The Gunners were not ready to let Xhaka leave Arsenal for Roma unless they receive around €15m.
