Walter Sabatini, the Sporting Director of AS Roma has stated that the derby match against city rivals SS Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico this Sunday will decide the fate of third place in the Italian League standings and this match will become the decider as to whether the Red and Gold Brigade will be able to catch up to The Blues.

The Wolves are currently 7 points adrift of their local rivals and according to Sabatini, if Luis Enrique’s men go down this Sunday, it will be the end of their hopes of finishing in a UEFA Champions League position for this season.

According to Sabatini, the Rome derby is already one of the fiercest and most heated derbies in the world and with the stakes so high this time around, it promises to provide a scintillating show. Ever since the buyout of AS Roma by an American consortium, money has been poured into the club but Sabatini believes that the club is still a work in progress.

According to Sabatini, almost the entire squad is new, the coaching staff is new, the board of directors is new and all these things take time to gel together, but he is also adamant that once they do, The Wolves will become a European powerhouse, much like Real Madrid in the 1950s and Barcelona in recent years.

Walter Sabatini also stood by new coach Luis Enrique, who, he believes is the man to take the club new heights and being from the Barcelona family, he will succeed. Sabatini also endorsed the Spaniard Enrique’s idea of AS Roma playing an exciting and attacking brand of football and believes that success is just around the corner and they just need to be patient for it to come into their hands in due course of time.
