ROMA RUE MISSED OPPORTUNITY

Roma were left frustrated after the latest round of fixtures, after they could only manage a draw with Catania.

With Juventus having failed to take all three points in their match, this was a great chance for Roma to capitalise on their misfortune, but they could only come away with the solitary point.

As a result, the gap between the two teams stays that 10 points, while it could have been easily reduced to 8 points.

Whilst Roma have all but given up on the Serie A title, the draw could also cost them a Champions League spot. Due to the low Champions League coefficients for Italy, only the top three teams will qualify for the Premier competition within Europe.

If Roma failed to qualify they would be one of the favourites on the Europa League betting markets for 2012/13.

After spending a huge amount of money on transfer of high-profile players, Roma will be looking to get into the Champions League at all costs. However, the 1-1 draw with Catania does not help matters one little bit.

Roma also had the heavens to blame, given the fact that the match was suspended midway due to a waterlogged pitch.

Meanwhile, midfielder Daniele de Rossi had just signed a new contract for Roma, which will keep him with the Italian club for the next five years, finally ending any speculation of moving away from the club he loves the most.

De Rossi once again proved his value for the club by scoring the equaliser after Catania had taken the lead early in the match. Nicola Legrottaglie had scored for Catania in the 24th minute only for him to witness Daniele de Rossi to secure the equaliser for Roma.

De Rossi's return to form will also be pleasing to Italy boss Cesare Prandelli. With the Euros coming up, the Italian coach is keen to have his talismanic midfielder back to his best - on this form then Italy are worthy of their Euro 2012 favourite odds of 4/1.

Hopefully Daniele will keep the goals coming!
